What are the Risks with Asbestos?
Products containing asbestos that are in good condition and are likely to remain undisturbed are not an issue in normal circumstances and in most cases are probably best left alone. The biggest threat to health occurs when the products are broken up, such as in demolition work or during refurbishment of buildings. Another issue is when deterioration of the product occurs which allows the harmful fibres to be released into the air where it can be inhaled.
JS Removals is on hand to offer all Peterborough residents the reassurance of a safe and effective removal of any asbestos that needs clearing from your property. We use only the latest techniques and ensure that all our staff wears effective PPE to keep themselves safe. Once removed we will take any hazardous materials to the nearest licensed waste disposal depot to Peterborough and when the task is complete you will receive an Asbestos Consignment Note which is your guarantee that the work has been completed satisfactorily and the harmful materials disposed of in accordance with all necessary regulations.
Where might you Find Asbestos in Peterborough?
Of course now we know of the dangers posed by asbestos it is no longer used, however it was once a main component in many building materials due to its beneficial properties such as being heat and water resistant. Peterborough and its surrounding area was no exception and there was substantial building works during a time when asbestos would have been widely used. Areas of development to create new townships included Bretton, Orton and Paston and was carried out during the late 1960s into the 70s, a time when many common products would have contained asbestos.
Although new construction is not the only time asbestos would have been used during this time. Any upgrading and refurbishing of buildings, both domestic and commercial, would have utilised asbestos quite heavily too.
There are many obvious uses of asbestos in building materials, especially in the construction of outbuildings such as garages and sheds. It can be found just in the roof of these structures or sometimes in the entire framework. At JS Removals we are well versed in partial or full garage removal throughout Peterborough and further afield.
Other external uses include soffit boards, gutters and down pipes and we can happily deal with all these for you should the need arise.
Internally the use of asbestos was also common and can be found in floor and ceiling tiles, wall boards and in the lagging of pipes and water tanks to name just a few.
