Asbestos removal costs can vary depending on a number of factors and is difficult to quantify.  A lot depends on the amount of asbestos that needs removing, as well as the location.  The cost is also affected by what you need to remove that contains asbestos, for example a garage roof will cost less to remove than a ceiling covered in Artex simply because of the complexity of the job and the risks involved to get your Asbestos Removal Cost.

Asbestos Garage Removal Costs

One of our most popular services is removing old asbestos garages from properties. The costs involved will vary depending on the location and size of the garage but start at £1,295 plus VAT for a 15m2 single garage. Please contact us in the first instance, provide us with some photos of your garage and we can give you a specific cost for removing it based on your needs.

Often it is just the roof of your garage that contains asbestos, with the walls being constructed of other, non-hazardous, materials. This will obviously affect the costs involved with the cost of removing a single garage asbestos roof being £595 plus VAT.

Asbestos was a common material used to roof many outdoor buildings including garages and sheds and above you’ll find a comprehensive list of costs for a wide range of removal of asbestos roofs from small sheds to large garages.  Simply send us photos of your shed or garage roof and we’ll give you a quote.

If you are wanting to reduce the cost of removing an entire garage or its roof and you are up for the challenge, then you could consider dismantling the garage yourself.  In this instance you should ensure that you take all necessary precautions to keep yourself safe from the harmful fibres that may be released.  You can do this by wearing protective clothing and a suitable mask, being careful not to cause damage to the asbestos sheets where possible and to make sure that all the material is properly bagged.

Along with the costs involved in us dismantling a garage prior to disposal you’ll also find costs for collection only as we also provide this service. We can collect and ensure safe disposal of suitably bagged asbestos waste from a garage or outbuilding that you have dismantled previously.

Cost for Removing Artex Containing Asbestos

Another popular service we have is asbestos Artex removal. Costs for this service will vary depending on the size of the wall or ceiling that is covered in the textured coating that contain asbestos.Whilst it may be tempting to simply remove these textured coatings yourself you should consider the safety implications involved in doing so.  It is often worth the cost of getting a professional company to remove the Artex asbestos coating as they will have all the relevant safety equipment and can dispose of the waste in a proper manner. Our team are all industry trained and upon completion of the asbestos Artex removal the cost includes a disposal certificate as your proof that the job has been carried out satisfactorily.

Soil Pipes, Guttering and Water Tanks

Products that contain asbestos cement, such as soil pipes or water tanks do not pose as high a threat as other instances of the harmful material but should still be handled with care and, unless you are experienced in handling these yourself, are best left to the professional removal companies. Our costs for removing these items include removal and environmentally friendly disposal followed by a certificate as proof of correct handling and disposal.

Encapsulating versus Removing

If you would rather avoid the cost of asbestos removal altogether then you might be able to go down the route of encapsulating the asbestos material rather than removing it. A lot depends on the condition of the asbestos that you are considering encapsulating and whether the hazardous material is likely to be disturbed or damaged in the future.

The cost of encapsulating asbestos is around £8 per square metre which can be a significant saving compared to asbestos removal costs.  However, the decision to encapsulate rather than remove asbestos should not be taken lightly and should not be based on cost alone. This is only a viable option if the hazardous material is currently in good condition and where it is unlikely to be damaged or disturbed by weather or future building works. Another consideration that will affect whether or not you encapsulate rather than remove is the impact it may have on the future sales value of your home.

What are the Costs for Testing if Asbestos is Present?

You’ll want to ensure that you know what you are dealing with before incurring too much cost, so it is a good idea to get an asbestos survey carried out if you suspect that you have products containing this harmful mineral.

The cost of a survey ranges from £50 for a basic survey and can rise to £200 or more depending on how big your home is and the area to be surveyed. The advantages of getting a professional to carry out a survey is that they could save you money based on their recommendations.  As mentioned above, sometimes encapsulating the asbestos is all that is recommended.

Another cost cutting option is a DIY testing kit, of which there are many on the market.  These cost around £30/£40 and come with instructions and suitable plastic bags for you to send off the samples collected for testing in a lab.  The cost of the test is included in the price.  The more expensive kits also provide suitable PPE to help keep you safe, something that you may need to purchase separately if you use the cheaper kit options.  The obvious disadvantage of going down the DIY route is that you won’t have the advice of the expert to guide you on how best to deal with the asbestos if it is found to be present in your property.

Here’s Why it’s Expensive to Remove Asbestos

As with everything in life, you should look beyond the initial cost of asbestos removal. Whilst it may seem a high price for asbestos removal you need to factor in the cost of on-going training which involves a UKATA training standards assessor as well as adequate insurance cover.  There’s also the additional costs involved in the disposal of hazardous waste such as asbestos.

Other costs which make the pricing of jobs involving the removal of asbestos products high is the PPE that is involved as well as the clean-up operation after the removal has been complete. We use special H class vacuum cleaners to ensure that the property is cleared of any contaminated fibres.

As you can see there is quite a bit of preparation and training required and also quite a lot of costs involved throughout the process and on completion which, when you take these into account actually makes the overall cost more effective.  Yes you could bring down the costs by doing some of the process yourself but having the reassurance of a trained and experienced team is often money well spent.
